Over the years, I’ve assembled a list of reflective questions that I ab-so-lutely love.

Initially, these were individual questions that took my notice, but were scribbled in one of the twenty notepads that I have on-the-go at any one time.

As I’ve started to consolidate my notes, I’ve put them in one place and realized these questions pair quite nicely together. Since then, I’ve started using them as an end-of-season reflection exercise for my coaches.

I call them my ‘reflective action questions’ because the intent isn’t to merely reflect, it’s to take action off the back of the reflection.

Here’s the eight questions, and a brief explanation of each:

  1. What leadership does this team need from me at this time?

If you’ve followed me for any duration of time, you’ll know that contextual leadership is at the core of my philosophy, and this question aims to focus that search for context. This team at this time — not another team at another time.
